Recycling of Wet Garbage

After collecting the wet garbage from various cafeterias at WKU, it is transported to the campus smart farm for pre-treatment, which involves removing impurities and recovering oil from kitchen waste. The organic dry residue obtained after pre-treatment can be used for aerobic fermentation by microorganisms to produce organic fertilizer for campus greening and farm cultivation, achieving internal recycling. The waste recycling facility serves as a student research experience base and can also be open to the community for popular science education.

Garbage Classification

From the principal to the faculty and staff to every WKU student...garbage sorting has become a mission that is implemented from top to bottom on the WKU campus. WKU strives to be a good role model of garbage classification. Everyone is responsible for garbage classification. Actively join the volunteer team of garbage sorting, set an example, guide and drive people around to support and participate in garbage sorting, jointly create a good atmosphere for everyone to be responsible for and benefit from, and spread awareness of civilization and healthy, scientific and civilized lifestyle to every corner of the campus.

Annual Week-long Environmental Protection

WKU holds a week-long environmental protection activity every year. Volunteers supervised and inspected the garbage classification downstairs of the dormitory at different times and guided the students in classifying and recycling garbage correctly. This activity aims to improve students' environmental awareness and share garbage classification knowledge. Volunteers also discovered problems in implementing campus waste classification during this activity and made specific suggestions on the problems. With the joint efforts of students, the campus environment will become better and better.
