Civic Engagement
Civic engagement is central to our commitment at WKU. Civic awareness and action are woven into campus life with programs. Our community spirit grows while learning and working in service to society, a service made possible through WKU’s programs and partners. The impact of WKU’s civic outreach begins in our immediate neighborhoods and community and expands across our region and beyond.
Sustainable Community
By 2025, the campus area will reach 380,000 square meters. At the same time, the university actively promotes the construction of an internationalized community around the campus and promotes the establishment of a special working group by the municipal party committee and government to build Kean Town and build an international university town and future community. The university and the local area work together to serve the construction of the international community, create a green school, and carry out ecological and cultural exchange and practical activities.
Social Engagement
WKU takes the opportunity of Energy Conservation Promotion Week, China Water Day, World Water Week, and Forest Day to carry out themed promotion and advocacy activities such as energy conservation, water conservation, food conservation, garbage classification, and green travel.
Green Practice
The campus student union organizes activities at the off-campus green practice base to teach children about ecological knowledge. It is never too early to encourage children’s sustainability skills. The earlier we start, the more likely they will develop lasting habits that will benefit our planet and future generations. Practicing sustainability helps children learn about the world around them. They can explore different values and figure out how the natural environment relates to their lives through individual and community actions. This supports them in becoming responsible adults, and it has a positive impact on children’s learning and well-being.
