2025年04月21日 | College of Business and Public Management | DantingTao | student | WKU dining hall provides a large number of meals every day, but there are much leftovers everyday. This not only represents a loss of resources but also contradicts WKU’s commitment to sustainability and responsible consumption (SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production). However, when it is time to close, there are often unsold leftovers (such as rice, pastries, and uncut vegetables), which are directly wasted. I recommended that the dining hall pack the unsold, unspoiled finished vegetables (such as steamed buns and rice) and unprocessed ingredients (such as whole vegetables and eggs) one hour before the closing of each meal and place them in the public area of the dormitory kitchen. Students can get them for free. Students can also process leftover ingredients in the dormitory kitchen, such as making sushi from rice. Unsold bread/pastries can be put into microwave to make bread pudding or toast. | Goal 12: Responsible consumption and production |
2025年04月21日 | College of Business and Public Management | ZijinLin | student | I suggest building a "Green Physical and Mental Health Promotion Space" plan that integrates natural environment and mental health resources on campus to create a sustainable space that promotes physical and psychological balance for students. For example, setting up a "meditation garden" or "meditation green space", using the area planted with green plants on the WKU campus with chairs and trails made of environmentally friendly materials, for students to take walks, read, or meditate after class to relieve stress. At the same time, "natural healing courses" such as horticultural therapy, ecological photography, etc., can be introduced to enhance students' mental health and happiness by getting close to nature. Regarding psychological support, anonymous "emotional recycling bins" can be set up to encourage students to express their emotions, communicate stress, and receive regular responses and guidance from professional psychological counselors. In addition, promoting low-carbon lifestyle habits such as walking to class and green eating benefits physical health and builds a more vibrant and stress-free campus ecological culture. | Goal 3: Good health and well-being |
2025年04月21日 | College of Business and Public Management | ShiyuLin | student | Wenzhou-Kean University aligns classrooms and faculty offices of the same major on the same floor, significantly reducing elevator use and conserving energy. This thoughtful arrangement not only minimizes electricity consumption but also enhances convenience for students who attend classes on a single floor. It reflects the university’s commitment to sustainability and efficient resource use. This initiative supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy and Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, by promoting energy efficiency and creating a more accessible, environmentally friendly learning environment. | Goal 11: Sustainable cities and communities |
2025年04月22日 | College of Business and Public Management | ChentingZhu | student | Goal 10 of the Sustainable Development Goals aims to reduce inequality within and among countries by promoting social, economic, and political inclusion for all, regardless of age, gender, disability, ethnicity, or background. As a student at WKU, I believe we can take meaningful actions to foster a more inclusive and equitable campus environment. One idea is to organize Inclusive Campus Events that actively involve international students, students with disabilities, and those from different socio-economic backgrounds, ensuring everyone feels welcome and represented. Additionally, we can launch a Peer Tutoring Program to provide free academic support for students who may face language barriers or lack access to learning resources. By creating a culture of mutual help, we not only support academic success but also build community bonds. Engaging in volunteer activities with migrant or underprivileged communities outside of campus is another impactful way to help bridge gaps in education and opportunity. Finally, hosting Diversity Dialogue Circles allows students from various backgrounds to share their stories, promote empathy, and break down stereotypes. These small but powerful actions can contribute to a more equal, understanding, and united campus community | Goal 10: Reduced inequality |
2025年04月22日 | College of Business and Public Management | XuwuZhao | student | Wenzhou‑Kean University will weave sustainability throughout campus life by embedding it into the General Education curriculum by introducing a required foundational course on climate change, sustainable development and socio‑ecological systems for future new students FOUR YEAR PLAN. While also infusing sustainability modules into existing syllabi across engineering, business, the humanities and beyond. Freshman students will be encouraged to explore dedicated sustainability electives, and our new “Campus as a Classroom” internship program like ASU will put them to work on real‑world projects, everything from energy audits and waste‑reduction campaigns to green landscaping—right here on campus.
